One of the best ways to build your online internet business starts with building your list. Most marketers make these simple mistakes that can destroy their chances to build a truly profitable online business.

1. Offer Something For FREE to Build Your List: First set up a squeeze page to get your new potential customers email address by offering them something for free. Make sure your website looks good. Making a nice header and footer with simple graphics is worth the money. Potential customers will instantly judge you and your credibility from what they first see and read on your website. First impressions are huge.

2. The FREE Information Must Be Something of Real Value: This is where a lot of people miss the chance to impress their new potential customers. You have offered to give them something free, but you must over deliver here. Don’t give out worthless info, give away something that is great. Some marketers give away an entire mini course that has cost them money to make. They are not selling the course, they are simply giving it away to build their email list. And the free report or course always ends with a call to action. Tell them what to do next, like how buy your low to medium priced product.

3. Making The First Sale: This is where most internet marketers screw it up. If they don’t buy from you immediately after the free information, it is so important to follow this. People like to buy from people they know like and trust. Most people will not buy from you on their first visit to your website or after they receive your free info. This is where most marketers fail. DO NOT just keep sending sales offer after sales offer to your new potential customers. You must continue building a “Relationship” with your list. Building a “Relationship” first is truly the key to having a successful online business.

4. Best Time To Up Sell More Products: Once the first sale is made, this is the best time to make another sale. Amazon knows this, and when you add a product to checkout they show you additional related products for you to buy immediately. Most people don’t have any additional products to up sell and they are leaving money on the table. If you need products to up sell start off offering other related affiliate products.

5. The Follow Up: Once you have built a “Relationship” with your list and they have bought from you once, you now have a customer for life. Your customers are like gold, they already like and trust you so sell them more products that you know will help them.

This may all sound so easy, but you and I know it isn’t. Most people just sell, sell, sell, to their list, because that’s all they know how to do. The money is in the email list but only if you first know how to build a “Relationship” with your list.
